In 2017, The Diocese of South Carolina voted and was received as a member diocese of the Anglican Church in North America. The Anglican Church in North America was formed as a province in 2009 as a result of the inaugural meeting of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans held in Jerusalem of 2008.

St. Matthias’ Church was established as a mission congregation in 1899, when this congregation began worshiping in the church that is still in use today.
