40 DAYS OF LENT:  DAY #3

WORD OF TODAY:  Job 42:5-6 (ESV)

5I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

THOUGHTS ON THE WORD:

Job has made his petition before God, and God has answered. Now, Job has a new understanding.  In these words, Job reveals he has grown into a new awareness and that new awareness has convicted him. He had heard God, but now he sees God.  Job now sees the magnitude of the greatness of God, and he is humbled, overwhelmed, awakened.

How often do we make our cry unto God from our hearing and not our seeing? Take time today to close your eyes and consider your understanding based solely on what you hear. Then open your eyes and consider the truth of what you now see. Consider how we can cry out with false interpretation into our moment.

Today reflect upon the perspectives you have, and consider where you might have heard correctly, but interpreted incorrectly, because the depth of Truth has not yet been seen. Job provides for us a great example today of surrender and a true heart’s desire for the Lord, despising himself for the error of his ways and repenting. What will you find in yourself that brings you to repent in dust and ashes?
