40 DAYS OF LENT:  DAY #25

WORD OF TODAY:  Psalm 119:162-164 (Coverdale Psalter of the 2019 BCP)

I am as glad of thy word, as one that findeth great spoils. 163 As for lies, I hate and abhor them; but thy law I love. 164 Seven times a day do I praise thee; because of thy righteous judgments.

THOUGHTS ON THE WORD:

Jesus, in His parable recorded in Matthew 13 says 44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

The Psalmist says that the word of the LORD is as if one has found great spoils. Consider today the relationship between the Psalmist’s words and the parable of Jesus. Do you realize the treasure to be found in God’s Word? Do you recognize the value of the treasure that is God’s Word?

Finally today, consider the Psalmist’s devotion as a model for your day. Will you set aside seven moments of your day to give praise to Almighty God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Here is an optional template you might consider:

First Praise Time- Give thanks for God’s Word, and His Righteousness.

Second Praise Time- Pray the Lord’s Prayer slowly and intentionally.

Third Praise Time- Consider the true value of God’s Word.

Fourth Praise Time- Pray the Ten Commandments (Exo 20).

Fifth Praise Time- Confess your sins and the convictions of your heart.

Sixth Praise Time- Consider once more the true value of God’s Word.

Seventh Praise Time- Pray the Lord’s Prayer and give thanks for God’s Word.
