40 DAYS OF LENT:  DAY #37 – Holy Wednesday

WORD OF TODAY:  1 Peter 2:23-25 (ESV)

23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

THOUGHTS ON THE WORD:

Yesterday we were charged to submit ourselves to God. And why would we not, if we hear the Truth of the Gospel. Jesus was just, and entrusted Himself to that justice. God is true and faithful to his word, and Jesus was not under the curse because He was the One who was made sin who knew no sin.

He bore our sins in his body on the tree. This is true whether you like it or not, whether you believe it or not, whether you doubt or not. Jesus Christ bore our sins in his body on the tree. If we put our faith and trust in this Truth, we will live to righteousness having died to sin. It is by His wounds that we are healed. He bore our sins in his body on the tree.

Christian, count the wounds of Jesus and consider the pain He endured. He did that for you! He did that for all the ones who caused Him all that suffering. You didn’t ask Him to do this, He did it because He loves you and wants to have you with Him forever. He did not revile in return for those who reviled Him, nor did He threaten those who brought suffering upon Him. This was His purpose, to bear upon Himself the suffering of our sin, the reviling of our sin, ,the death of our sin.

Consider today this most precious gift of atonement offered for every sinner to receive, and the cost by which it came. Jesus was steadfast in His willingness to suffer for your redemption, and all He asks is that you walk with Him in faith.
